Q. What are examples of good management skills?

A. Great managers understand their team and the dynamics among its members. Where does each employee excel? How do their skills compliment each other, and how do they work best—both in a group and on their own?

Managers know how to select and develop the right people for the right roles and must be able to motivate their team, especially when morale starts plummeting. It’s crucial to know how to lift up employees so they feel engaged, as well as recognized and appreciated for their contributions to the company.

Another necessary managerial skill is effective communication. Managers are primary decision-makers and problem solvers, so transparent communication tends to earn them great respect among their team.

With all the responsibilities of a manager, one of the most important skills to master is the ability to delegate. Beyond that, a manager knows his/her team well enough to know which person should be delegated to which task. That’s the trick to keeping everything moving like clockwork.
