Q. I recently started a new job. Is it okay to apply to other jobs without listing my new job on my resume?

A. It’s okay to apply to other jobs after you recently started a new job, but you should definitely add your current job to your resume and also have a solid reason as to why you’re looking to leave so quickly. Maybe the culture is a bad fit, or the job isn’t what was presented to you during the interview process, et cetera.

Rule of thumb: Always be transparent on your resume. If you’re not, the truth is going to show up on your background check anyway, and a prospective employer will wonder why you weren’t honest. Plus if you weren’t truthful about that, a prospective employer will figure you’re not honest about other things too—and nobody wants to hire a dishonest candidate.
